Scott and I spent the bulk of the day finalizing our walk plans in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Pretty spectacular place, as you can see. More intimate than the Grand Canyon - feels like you are right there and can almost reach down and touch the river - like a 3D movie.
We're now in the picturesque little mountain town of Ouray - surrounded on three sides by massive mountain cliffs. It was close, but we both survived caloric overload from some of the best ice cream known to man. The Mouse's Chocolate & Coffee Shop tempted us with a #1 TripAdvisor rating so, of course, it was our travel planner duty to test the rating. Scott had a double scoop waffle cone that he says warranted its own zip cone - scoop #1 was cookie dough and scoop #2 was caramel swirl. I had the Oreo Lover's sundae that was also incredelicious and almost required a wheelbarrow to transport back to our room.
Tomorrow we've pledged to hike the Ouray perimeter trail, and at least 6 other multi-mile trails to work off at least a fraction of tonight's calorie consumption!
