Here is our final day in Scandinavia - the last walk in Finland. It was a wonderful nature walk, though I think next time, we'll cut back on the the amount of the trail that's in the forest and include some walking through the medieval core and along the river in Porvoo.

What these pics don't show is that at the end of the walk, while our hosts were barbequing up some Finnish sausages, a bunch of us were partaking of the ultimate Finnish passtime - the sauna!

The club had a very nice sauna on a rise above a small lake. Seven us of simmered in the sauna, slapping each other with the traditional birch branches to stimulate circulation, and watching one of our hosts manipulate the heat by chugging a bunch of water on the stove to generate more steam

The best part of the experience, however, was the plunge into the lake. I thought it was cold - almost did a little walk on water dance to escape the bone-crunching chill. But when I expressed that naive point of view as we were walking out to the bus, our local sauna expert turned around and starred at me, as if she had to see what kind of idiot would consider that to be cold, kind of like the stare you get from an offended motorist who wants to see the jerk that just cut them off has three heads, or a single eye in the middle of their forehead.

On the way back to Porvoo, we stopped at a small chocolate factory and loaded up on goodies to take home (some won't make it). It was another great day in Scandinavia and we're sad to leave. We're especially sad because most of us have to get up at 3:00 am in the morning for the ride to the airport!
