After waiting at the airport for hours & hours we finally got the 45 min flight to Raiatea which was after 3.30pm! Were picked up by the resort taxi and taken to the Raiatea Lodge Hotel. Unfortunately too late to do anything “resortie” such as take out their kayaks & snorkel off their jetty but we did go for a walk down to the end of the jetty to watch the sunset and all the colourful fish swim around the corals. Our hosts Olivier & Karine are absolutely lovely. Olivier is a real character. A young couple with a family and surrounded by good staff. We dined in the restaurant that night – both of us hanging for a steak so we ordered the fillet of beouf with stuffed vegies. They consisted of a stuffed baked potato (stuffed with mash & onions & really buttery), a stuffed zucchini – with eggplant I think and a stuffed capsicum with a tomato stuffing. The entire meal was delicious. We also had a wine and then dessert of which Dale had a crème brulee topped with suggary coconut (very sweet) and I had a chocolate souffle which was also delicious. Retired to bed feeling full and tired but worked out a menu plan and list of items we should buy.

Woke pretty early for a big day out. Had breakfast of bread, fruit, yoghurt, coffee/tea, ham & cheese. Pretty nice way to start the day. Karine & Olivier organised our hire car, so went and got this and our first stop was Dream Yacht Charter as Jerome, the base manager had called me the night before and I told him we would come first thing. Had a good chat with Jerome and checked out the boat which we could load as soon as we wanted. We went for our drive down the east coast of Raiatea and drove through the mountains and then back up the coast before stopping at Hotel Atiapiti for a beer. Nice little outlook on the beach across to Hauhine. We found we were running out of time and we wanted to go shopping and then drive down the west coast of Raiatea but it was looking like it would be shopping only!

There are 3 supermarkets here and each offered something a little different than the other. At the Champion we got all our dry goods and alcohol/softdrink. At the SM Liaut we bought all our dairy, fish & steak and other stuff we forgot at the first place. We took everything down to the boat and loaded up ready for departure in the morning. We were running behind time and had no chance of getting around the west side of the island before dark. I spied a little pizza place on the wharf near the fuel dock and we decided to try this out - must admit we were impressed with the quality of their pizza's! We got back to the Lodge - absolutely dog tired from spending our day in the heat - didn't even have a nightcap before bed!
