I showed up to Pakse on an overnight bus from Vientiane, and arrived at the hostel at 7am. When I got there a couple of gals from Denver were there waiting who were planing on heading on a three day kayaking trek down in Sii Phan Don, the 4,000 islands. Since I had planed on a trek, I figured, this sounds good to me, so I signed up for the ride.
The Mekong spreads out into what I would call a giant lake, creating a group of "4,000 islands" right before the boarder of Cambodia. It's a pretty awesome place. I took a trek with a couple of American girls living in Denver. The group we went with was called Green Discovery out of Pakse, Lao. The first day was a 30km kayak ride after the drive down to the islands. The area is pretty empty of people, just me, two guides, two gals from Denver, the Mekong, and inflatable kayaks.
I don't have much time to write, I'm about to board an overnight bus to Phuket on my way to Ko Phi Phi and Ko Lanta for new years. For the most part, there isn't much to say here that wouldn't probably be better spoken in poetry or pictures!
