I came back from Chitwan in time to join Lapsang (my new friend who had organized my climb as he runs a trekking agency called Alpine Adventure Team) who was going to visit his family and offered to join him and discover Tamang people and villages around.
Tamangs are a large ethnic group in Nepal. They live in the hills North of Kathmandu and have a strong Tibetan influence as they are descendants of horse traders from Tibet.
We took a bus from Kathmandu going North East (it took 6h!) then walked for about 1 hour in the hills. After a night at his family house we woke up early to trek in the little hills where I could discover the nice little Tamang villages and even attend a wedding.
Great time and I'm glad I met Lapsang who is a great guy not only running his trekking/expedition agency successfully but also helping his community by giving to the schools and helping young people finding job.
I really enjoyed this 1.5mth in Nepal and hope the political situation is not going to explode between the Maoists and the government. It could get nasty and damaging for such a beautiful and poor country.
