Here we are in Palm Springs - took us 6 hours to drive from Seqouia but what a difference - temperature here is high nineties and the scenery is quality - then someone has just built a town in the middle of a desert.  The cafes and restaurants in downtown Palm Springs constantly spray water onto their customers to keep them cool - genius.  We got a very nice room with a kitchen so we can make our own dinner - so nice in fact we decided to stay here a week.  We'll be back here in a couple of weeks when Ken and Marie get here so we didn't do much sightseeing - plus we wanted to chill out a bit (it's been so stressful doing all this sightseeing!).  We attempted to sunbathe but it's too hot - Steve nearly melted.  So new plan was shopping, shopping shopping.  And boy did we shop - now we have an even more ridiculous amount of luggage to try to get back to the UK.  We also took the opportunity to get our hair cut which we both needed badly.

Basically we did anything that meant we were inside somewhere with air conditioning and involved us not moving much.  Even walking from the room to the car (about 50ft) had us gasping for breath.  But apparently this was not enough for the locals who were complaining that the temperature was well below average and should be in the three digits.  Most of them were walking around in jeans.  On the other hand I have never been hotter in my life!

On our last night at 1:20am we experienced our first earthquake - well, I say we, but what I mean is me because Steve was soundo.  It only lasted a couple of seconds and felt like a lorry driving by really close but I did somehow know it was an earthquake.  I googled it the next day and sure enough there was a 3.6 earthquake just outside Palm Springs - 3.6 is quite a small one in comparison to some and thankfully didn't cause any damage or casualties.
