  Dear Nae,
I arrived at Maxine's house yesterday and the sky was already gathering clouds.  There was a bit of apprehension after so many years; however, I felt that I was lead here for a good reason. Imagine not seeing your High School friend for 50 years and walking up the sidewalk to greet each other.

What does one say?
Long time no see?
What have you been up to?
Been a while, huh?
How's the family I never knew?

There was no issues at all.  Mama once told me I'd talk to a telephone pole if it stood still long enough.  Max was the same.  We were immediately friends again.  It was such a great, exciting feeling.  She has had a wonderful, rural life here in Great Falls.  We have both experienced much of life in our own separate ways.  Families, friends, all that which compiles a good, successful life was waiting to be shared.  Max lost her husband some while back, but his memory lives on in this little town and especially in Max's heart.  I could tell from the pictures that he was a well liked and a easy man to be around.  They did very well for themselves and it shows with the home and all her friends.
I was able to meet two of her friends.  They were uniquely beautiful Southern Bells as was Max.
I hope to call her friend forever.  Thanks Max!  You're great!
It began to rain and Max wondered if I still wanted to go on the picnic.  I told her that rain was a strange and wonder thing to a Arizona boy!  So, we immediately left for the small amount of day left.
We had about 15 minutes at a great picnic table next to the Catawba River before the sky fell.  According to Max, it used to be a spot where barges were towed up and down the river.  It was so green it hurt the eyes to stare! (No more alligators though!)  We had sand witches and the rains came.  It was great fun running to escape melting.  It was Close!  The fun was had, the watermelon was consumed, the friendship was concreted and life was good.  It seemed as if Max and I had always been buds!
We got the old 1960 Senior annual out, brushed off the dust, and spoke of old times.
The moment was delicious.  The relationship was solidified with talk of God and Glory of old times, new challenges, fresh ideas, Gods finger after a touch, old loves, making out in favorite spots, a new world coming, and issues of heart and head.  It will be a part of who I am.  She is indeed special.  May it not be another 50 years my dear!!!!
Love you Max!
