I took the 930 AM bus from Vina Del Mar to La Serena.  I planned on staying two nights there, but when I arrived, I thought the best thing to do would be book my onward travel to San Pedro de Atacama.  I got to kind of look at the city from the bus coming into town and the beach didn't look too impressive and the only ticket going North (the direction I wanted to go) was to get a bus ticket for Wednesday, which was 4 days later or stay 7 hours in La Serena and take the 1 AM bus to San Pedro de Atacama.  I decided there was not 4 days worth of stuff to see in La Serena and bought a ticket for the midnight bus.  I checked in my bags in the luggage storage and walked around the city for two hours.  Most of the stores were closed.  The buildings were not super tall and only one to three stories.  They were a bit run down.  La Serena is famous for churches.  It has quite a few churches and most of them come from the 19th century.  It also has a lot of flowers that make the city look pretty nice around the parks.  I saw the traditional Plaza de Armas, which is basically the center square in every city in South America.  It's basically the central park. I had some dinner, tried to find a movie, but it wouldn't have been possible for me to catch a movie and catch my bus.  There are a few malls here that are decent, but were very crowded when I was there due to Easter weekend.
