Florence Lake and Lake Josephine are the two lakes on the small island. Lake Josephine is a nice lake, but it is private and only open to residents who live on the lake. Florence Lake is public and a very nice lake. A lot of people paddle on their row boats and relax. There is a waterslide and pontoon that float in the middle of the lake for recreational purposes. We had a lot of fun on this day trip, but it could have been better. We only had chips and salsa for our picnic and Claire forgot her swimming suit, so was unable to swim. It was still a very enjoyable day and a great getaway from Buckley. I would recommend this island to anyone and say it is one of the best places to be in the area and also one of the most undiscovered, which I think is better.
It was great to finally have a nice day trip from Buckley. We woke up in the morning and decided to go to Anderson Island. I have never been there and had no clue what was even there, but wanted to explore it with Claire. We had to take a short ferry ride from Steilacoom to arrive on the island. It was about a 45 minute drive to Steilacoom from Buckley. A day trip seemed to be the best way to visit the island since a hotel was nearly $250/night here. The island takes about 45 minutes to drive around and has a population of a little more than 1,000 people. The island is full of nature. There was a walk to Andy's Marina that took 20 minutes. There were all kinds of plant life along the way that was labeled with the type and species of plant. This was both for educational purposes and safety reasons. There is poison oak on the trail that can be dangerous to tourists. This path brings you out to a pebbley beach that looks out to the other side the mainland or other islands.
