On the road again! We headed south, southern coast of Crete, right beneath Rethymno, to reach the beautiful monastry of Preveli (in Moni Preveli, "Moni" means "Monastry"). Well the new one, because the very old one is almost gone back to dust... This monastry is a place of bravoury during the second world war, defended by the monks and popes over there against the invader. It is still occupied by monks and the place offers a magnificent view on the sea.
The architecture of the site reminds old western movies and sometimes, one could think one is in a small mexican village of the 19th century, as seen by the hollywood studios... The chapel can be visited, as well as the small museum inside (free of course, because of poor interest...). Finally, even if an entry fee is asked, this place is worthy being visited!!
Moni Preveli is not that beg, so 45 minutes (1 hour at maximum) are enough there. Something a bit funnier lays down the mountain: Preveli's lake and beach!
