July 6, From San Francisco to Lake Tahoe

Sunny 86F/30C

Again we woke up early at half past five. Fortunately Starbucks on Chesnut opens at 06.00 so we had our breakfast over there. Back at our room we wrapped up our last stuff, saddled up and went in the direction of Lake Tahoe.

As last component of San Francisco we drove the most Crookedest street of the world; Lombard Street. After we drove Lombard Street we took the road through Bay Bridge direction Sacramento.
Beyond Sacramento air became very yellow and smelled very much like fire.

We took a little coffee break in Nevada City a teeny-weeny typical tourist village. It has still a couple of authentic buildings and a lot of typically tourist shops. In short, it is a nice place to keep a small pause.

At 11.00 we continued our route to Lake Tahoe. As from Nevada City we had a splendid route through forests and mountains to get to Tahoe City. From Tahoe City we went north and drove the scenic route clockwise around the lake. At an Incline we took a little sidestep from the route for a couple of miles direction Reno, to drive up to viewingpoint Mt. Rose. Despite that the sight was not entirely clear, the view from here looking over Lake Tahoe was really beautifull. You can get an idea how large the Lake is. The water looks incredibly blue and in combination with bits of snow on the mountaintops in the distance it creates a beautiful picture.

Around half past two we arrived at our hotel Quality Inn & Suites South Lake Tahoe. Because our bodies still had no idea at all of what time it was, we made them think that it was already diner time. So at three o'clock we took a table at Taj Mahal, an india food restaurant, which is located next door to the hotel. An hour later are stomachs are nicely full. We are still shaky and tired of the previous days in San Francisco, so we went to our room to relax a little; take a shower, little nap, watch a film on TV, doing things close to nothing. Of this we tidied up good and at a quarter past seven we decided to drive up to Lake Tahoe to see the sunset. The ride appeared as long as 3 complete minutes!

Very rapidly we found a beautiful spot and there we watched the sunset. The temperature was still about 82F/28C, therefore it felt deliciously comfortable. After the sun went to sleep, we bought ourselves a delicious ice cream at the other side of the road before we returned to our room. Back on our room we took of course our glass of wine and told each other that we found Lake Tahoe a very beautiful area to drive around . If we have had some more time here to spend, it would also be worth to explore some of the water sport facilities which are offered here everywhere, but that will have to wait untill a future holiday.

Distance driven today :268 miles.
