The bus ride was an experience I hope not to have to repeat anytime soon but given that this is the only route into the hills I will be doing it again in 4 days! The driver was possessed and reminded me of Dick Dastardly from Wacky Races except he was much meaner and had a certain death wish. People were hanging on to anything they could get a strong grip on to stop them from falling over/off their seat. The views were stunning though and Guns and Roses on full volume on the iPod took my mind off the precipitous drops just outside my window. I travelled to the Perriyar Tiger Reserve by rickshaw and checked in for a 3 night stay. Its a very lush and quiet place but tigers - nee chance. Fortunately I was under no illusion as to my chances of seeing any of the great beasts but this was more about getting away from stifling heat to somewhere quiet and with the opportunity to trek a little and maybe see some other wildlife. To be honest I enjoyed 2 good treks but that was nothing to do with the wildlife and more the surroundings. As always the people were extremely friendly and I enjoyed a number of beers in the hotel beer parlour which was actually what they called the bar. Time to move on to Cochi the capital of Kerala.
