Our final stop was the holy city of Kairouan
Kairouan is Tunisia's holiest city, with more than 50 mosques within the medina.
Kairouan is the 4th most important city in the Islamic World after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem.
The grande Mosquee de Sidi Oqba (great mosque) pictured, is the main attraction. It was constructed by the Aghlabids in AD 863. The prayer hall contains 400 marbl pillars, many of which were recovered from the ruins of Carthage and El Djem.
