I'll bet most of you figured I had arrived home long ago but I'm still on the road. Well, on the plane anyway & bound for San Diego. It has been a long trip but a great one with lots of memories & no bad moments. The cruise was, in Princess-speak, excellent. Their favorite buzz word is "excellent". They found that when passengers disembark & are asked how they liked their cruise, they immediately say "excellent"!.
Sydney is always a beautiful city to visit & one of my favorites. I read that Costco is opening 5 stores next year in Sydney. If Costco is there, WalMart won't be far behind. Sydney won't know what hit them.
I have been in Kauai for 3 weeks, doing a home exchange in the Poipu & Hanalei area. I have enjoyed each one & it gave me an opportunity to see both ends of the island. I took several tours: touring the spectacular NaPali coast by catamaran, a movie location tour (over 50 movies have been made here. Jurassic Park 4 is next), a tubing ride down irrigation canals (fun, fun, fun), a thrilling 9 zipline adventure (my first) & a zipline, kayak, swimming, suspension bridge & hiking combo adventure. I also squeezed in a number of snorkeling days, too.
Kauai is known for lots of things: the most beautiful beaches, the magnificent Na Pali Cliffs jutting into the ocean, the incredible rain forests, the panoramic Waimea Canyon & waterfalls seemingly everywhere. However, it is not known for much of a nightlife. This is pretty much a rural island with not one street light on the entire island (traffic lights don't count). The roads are winding & it's pitch dark when the sun sets. I ventured out too late one night & drove 2 miles past the turnoff to my home before I realized I had missed it! Street signs are virtually nonexistent & many are covered with dense foliage. The directions given by the locals are amusing....."right at Hilo Hattie's", "right at the fire station", "left at McDonald's", "left at KFC". It has been fun being here & I look forward to returning to Kauai again some day.
Adventure still calls me......I'm cruising again in January. I will keep some of you in suspense but the cruiseline just informed me I need a Yellow Fever vaccination. If you've enjoyed reading my travel blogs, you will probably be on the list again. If not, drop me a note & Mahalo to those who sent email. I loved hearing from you.
A-loooooooo-ha!
