Just a lazy morning today, no rush and only went out just to the shops near us to get a pair of shoes we'd seen and later to go get a haircut in a proper bonafide barber shop!! Wasn't all that easy seeing as they only really spoke spanish, but one understood enough to tell the other, did a proper good job though as you expect. It was the whole thing, small narrow shop, 5 chairs, five barbers all in the red shirts all with super neat haircuts and neat styled beards, the whole barber shop thing going on like we saw in queens too, only these are Hispanics. Anyway didn't turn out too bad so happy about that.
We just chilled for a few hours watching NCIS begore heading off at about half four, the plan being to get into Manhattan for dark, do a bit of night time Christmas shopping to experience it all and to find the tree and ice rink and Christmas lights of course!!!!
Well we started on 34th and it was just manic, what with the work rush, tourists and shoppers you could hardly walk, let alone walk in a straight line, though sometimes thats the only way, just walk straight, straight at people!! Or in the road!!
We thought we'd give Macy's a second go, we did all the floors, but it was just chaos and how people actually find anything in there is a mystery!! Great to see it all lit up by night though, all the window scenes they do and the bottom floor all decked out as you come down the elevator.
So we tried a couple of shops, and though it had died down a bit, we gave up on the shopping idea, though it was mainly just to be there, walk around, see it by night, and its definitely an experience!!
Back on the subway and found our way to the Rockefella centre, walked north towards 51st, see the radio city along the way and the crowds of people lining up to go see the Rockettes Christmas experience, headed past that and right onto 51st, walked along a block and as we turned the corner we were met by the spangly tree!!! The tree that everybody wants to see!!!
It's not as big as you imagine, well its big, just not as tall as you'd think, but the surrounding area is all lit up and decorated beautifully, so we were glad it was as nice to see as we had expected, got our pictures and had a look at the rink before heading off, too many people!!
A bit of luck on our wander back, over Madison, over Park, over to the 4train, we saw and went past Jimmy Choo!!!! Claire couldn't go in, she knew it would be deadly so had to settle for a look in the window, I did try to persuade her, I reckon she thought they might not let us in if we went to the door!!!
Back for dinner, a gyro off the street vendor, very good, very spicy!!! Taco bowl for Claire from a food place we found downtown!!! Mmmmmm!!!!
