Day 310;

Woke up in our lovely spot beside the harbour, after the coffees and teas we got moving, we headed for the centre of Taupo, got a load of information from the information centre and decided which Thermals we wanted to do and where we would stay.

We made our way to the quieter thermal area of Orakei Korako , we could see it straight away from the car park the massive area where there was just white and no living plant, while we ate lunch we noticed in the lake bubbles and steam coming to the surface of the water.
We got a boat over to the beginning of the walk way, started the walk and could feel the heat straight away, water was steaming running down and to the lake, the information sign showed how far the thermal area ran to and from the point going into the water it continued all the way to the other side of the lake, so that was the reason we saw bubble coming up from the water.
It was very peaceful, there where not very many people walking round so it was nice.
We walked around and in various parts there are viewing points and also different parts of the thermal.
some areas looked like snow mounds, they had lots of areas of big holes where the heat had broken down rocks and created the hole, there was huge mud holes bubbling.
We could really do with smell-a-vision, this place is stinky everywhere there is steam or a hole it stinks like rotten eggs (sulphur) and there is no escaping it!
They had all different colours from bright Orange through to white.
The walk went round in a circular route, walking through forest like plants, wondering all the time how anything can live this close to the thermal heat.
It was intresting to see and a relaxed place but think we where all glad to be getting away from the smell when we where leaving.

We drove back to Taupo and went to the caravan park next to a thermal spa.

We all headed to the thermal spa, as we had missed hammer springs it was a must so we would know what it was all about.
And wow it was so nice made the mistake of going into the hottest one first which we obviously didn't know, me and Phil after cooking for a while investigated the other pools, the tub and other pool where really cool, the most popular was average, both of us couldn't resist doing the big slide, haven't been on one of these since I was a kit, it was brilliant even let out a little scream as I came near the end.
They have private in door pools which where a bit strange didn't really like it so headed back to the average pool, it was nice just all well and truly relaxed.
Went back and had dinner, me and Phil headed back to the pools it was raining so it was pretty cool, showered and slept!
