Day 307 ;
Today was a bit of a let down in most ways, we were all excited to be looking forward to getting out on a whale watching tour, but as we found out quite early, they'd all been cancelled for the day. Poop.
Not to be beaten, we booked onto wings over whales - a flight in a little plane that goes in search of the whales, you know the kind, the one you all have to pedal to get going, even that turned out not to be , but, we did have one very good thing about the day, and it was free!! About a twenty minute drive north of kaikoura, a little spot just off the road, a short walk along a track to where the waterfall begins and runs all the way down and out to sea, but more than that, the main attraction, the seals!!! Lots of them, hundreds maybe, including the ones sunbathing along the rocky coast, was really cool to watch them playing around, and they didn't seem one little bit bothered by all of us gawping at them, there's a lot of people that go there but it doesn't bother them so you get some great pics, literally a few feet away, was pretty sweet...
After , we thought we were heading back to go get our flight, drove back to kaikoura, south of kaikoura, turned up at the airstrip...to be told, well, we haven't actually seen any today, and the sea is a bit choppy, making it mire difficult to spot them.understandable. but why not tell us that from the information centre this morning@@@ derr!!! They managed to pick up the phone to check the sea trips so why not the air trips..oh well, other than that, they have got the tours and tourism down to a pretty fine art
So, off we went again, left kaikoura and headed north, got to Blenheim and found a campsite, turned out a beautiful evening, sunshine!!!! A pretty rare sighting so far in the south island!!!
