Where I stayed
Hotel Kota Lodge
Am fed up with kula Lumpar now so convinced Phil to make a move, got a taxi to the nearest bus station and also the one the books says to go to, but no the bus to melaka doesn't go from here anymore, so had to get another taxi to another bus station, which was miles away, and of course we ending up getting a really old driver, with a really old car, with really old wind screen wipers, it was slow and quite scary on a dual carriage way when it started chucking it down! Just don't understand why not splash out on new windscrean wipers so you can actually see the road.
The old snail went the wrong way at the bus station so drove around for a bit longer, it is understandable though the bus stations here are like airports there so big, this one had different departure areas and gates on different levels, loads of shopping and food court areas, and they really do feel like your in an airport terminal - strange!
We got our ticket and the gate number and made our way along - bit of luck for once, bus was due to leave in fifteen minutes.
The bus was A-mazing, two seats on one side and one seat on the other, we got the very back seats so had our chairs reclining the whole way back and loads of room it was so comfy, the two hours went so quickly could have spent hours on that bus and not minded.
Got to Melaka bus station, had a few men trying to get us to their hotels ended up going with one, got the bus to the town centre, walked and found our hotel, it was nice, reasonably clean, got tv not that we can understand it, wifi is excellent only problem have to go outside everytime we want a cigarette.
Had a walk round found the atm then went for a wander around the town, went to see the museum, which was a boat and an actual museum, it was fun walking around an old boat, the museum was a bit strange and just had bits of information for everything in there.
Then went on the hunt for food, after a few hours of walking around getting looked at like idiots eveeytime we walked into restaurants I was ready to go home, had a wee bit of a hissy fit, the book does state that being a vegetarian in Malaysia is tough, but this place was taking the biscuit, one thing that can instantly turn me into wanting to go home is definitely food!
But all calm was restored as I had just given up hope and as we looked up right in front of is was a vegitarian restaurant, had some food Malaysian food it was good, we walked around a bit more got Phil some chicken and rice to take away and this cool little van was set up selling dough things that had rice or bean filling, they where really good.
Went to bed with full bellys which was nice!
Spent most of the morning chilling in the room, drawing and generally being lazy but it was raining so good excuse.
Went out had a walk around found this amazing bakery that has the best cup cakes ever and after 7 months of not having one it was well over due!
Found a cheap Malaysian cafe just on the river had some good cheap food, you can find the odd place but you really have to look, so both happy and headed back to our home and watched a film.
Tried to get up early so not to waste the day didn't do to bad, its so hard as a lot of the rooms we stay in don't have Windows so its hard to tell if it is in the middle of the night or middle of the day.
Started our mission and headed for the village of Kampung Mortem its a group of wooden stilt houses that are ' distinctively Melakan' quite intresting to look at but that is pretty much it, did kind of expect it to be a bit different to what it was, just looked like seafront chalets that could have been anywhere in the world?!?
Walked along the boardwalk, and all the to the shopping centres it was so nice to get into the centre to get out of the heat think I was melting, had a quick look round, found the one think that has been desperatly needed, nickers and I have to say I have never been so happy, even though they cost a fortune at 5 pounds for 3 pairs!
Tried to find the Malaysian food stalls but think they may have gone as the area is now a building site. Headed towards hotel walked in one direction, I was pretty sure the area was a ticket area but Phil was addament that we could walk through, so when we got there he said ow no we can't go through you need a ticket, well Der I already said that! Quite amusing love it when he goes wrong, can't slay him too much he did get us back a lot quicker way than the way there, both of us started to winge a bit about our legs hurting so much but we did make it back to the hotel, Phil decided to work out how long our walk was and in total today we walked 13km and I have to say it hurt. A lot.
Went round the corner for dinner in the Indian restaurant it was good food, Phil had tandoori chicken which seems to be their specialality.
Brought some drink, crisps and chocholate in shop, have to share the chocholates as didn't have enough money, shared them out but I happened to nick the extra one at which point Phil called me a little grub well thanks very much!
While out for a cigarette saw a lady pull up on a motor bike and empty all her bags on the floor for the stray dogs and cats, its the first time I have seen someone actually care about the stray animals, just though it was really nice.
