Day 219 ;

Lazy start to the day, train to Kuala Lumpur booked for twelve so no rush, got up at about eight and took a walk around trying to find coffee and sat watching everything and everyone going about their normal day, opening up shops, traffic whizzing around, people getting their papers and all that which was like a little bit of normality, seems to be more malaysians of Indian origin here than Chinese as opposed to Tanah merah which was predominantly Muslim and other places which have been Chinese in the main.

Sat in the station and watched them working on the line and apart from the slightly less strict health and safety rules I could of been watching a gang working in England, it was pretty strange - everything was done the same way. It wasn't too late and we did get moving after a while.. on our way to Kuala Lumpur!!

Just outside the city centre we got a pretty amazing view of downtown KL - the golden triangle, including the Petronas Towers [ menara ] and just further on through the suburbs it didn't seem quite so tightly packed or claustrophobic as other cities have felt. Of course some of the blocks of run down buildings were the same as always but as you coming towards the city you still feel the same as almost anywhere else we've been and seen in Malaysia, the same hills in the back ground , the green, the palms and the rainforest can all still be seen, again, like the city has been cut into what once would of been rainforest I guess?? A nice change,

Pulled into KL Sentral and once we had come up from the below ground platforms it felt like you were in an airport, with not only the normal train but I think also every other LRT,ERL, KL monorail and KTM komuter service and line intersecting there, didn't get to walk round it all but probably would have got lost anyway...

From there we thought we'd ease ourselves into it and went with a taxi, which turned out reasonable anyway, with fixed rate tickets bought from the counter. Dropped in Chinatown - Jalan Petaling and got our first sight of Petaling covered market and again we didn't fancy walking around for too long trying to find somewhere, went for one that offered tv and WiFi but guess what - they lied!! Neither worked, its pretty sleazy round here too, seems the same in every Chinatown we've now been, rooms are available at hourly rates and there's always a lot of women hanging around in the streets but in fairness you don't really get much hassle, its just not that nice if you start thinking about the rooms and the bed your sleeping in etc etc... They do seem to be clean though, always people cleaning, good.

The usual evening, walking around taking it all in, finding food, a few bits for Claire, and finally some beer - the best we could find, I can't seem to figure it out but I don't think they brew there own beer here in Malaysia?? Can't seem to find anything, so that means its all imported which means it comes at a price - a tiny little can - 330ml, basically around 9 ringgit - best part of two quid, and even the little shops serving food and beer aren't much better. Well, we did manage to find one shop
- bear beer, 12% imported German beer - now that.... Will knock your head off. We only got three each and never managed to finish the third, had an early morning to look forward to so thought better of it for once!
