I tried snowboarding for the first time while in Korea... after 12+ years of skiing it's really difficult to "deprogram" and "reprogram" yourself to ride down the slopes on something so fundamentally different.
Making things worse is that this is KOREA, a wonderfully over-populated nation of weekend warriors. I had never been to such an over-crowded mountain for skiing. This combined with low-visibility and Korean's complete and utter disregard for personal space made for a very difficult trial of snow and pain.
Needless to say, I'm not a convert to the world of snow boarding, and ached to be carving through the powder on skis instead of lying face first in the stuff.
Fun Facts:
- There were very few mini-vans or SUVs with families of avid skiers... instead, everybody goes as part of a tour and most everyone takes a bus.
- Koreans ski/board in the EXACT manner that they drive.
- It actually SNOWS in places just a few hours away from the "Autumn Wonderland" I call Changwon. On this occasion it actually snowed A LOT and it was big, fluffy powder that made me wish I had opted for skis instead of venturing the board.
- Korean snow tastes funny.
- I think I BOUNCE.
