Mildura was great, as usual! We landed safely with only a puncture to show for our travels, that's only 2 (so far) and considering some of the roads we've been on a pretty good record. After a nice afternoon sitting by the Murray River we went for a stroll around the van park a met a couple we had camped beside in Cairns, small country! Alan and Margaret are on their way to Sydney having been to Cairns across the top to Broome, then down to Perth across the Nullabor to Adelaide and then to Mildura. When you consider we stayed in Cairns and decided at the last minute the route we would take it's pretty weird that we met up! We had a lovely lunch with Margaret and Alan at Trentham Estate winery, lovely spot right on the river bank. Caught up later for a barbie and sadly we were on the road again the next day.
Next stop Renmark... we had been talking to the Clearys who were having a romantic week by the Murray River in Renmark, so we decided we should ruin it and land into the park on Wednesday. Had a great day by the pool with Mel, Rob and assorted rellies.
A great night was had by all in the Renmark Club. We'd obviously upset the whole Cleary clan cause they up and left the next day...nah, they had planned to go, really!
AND then we found the perfect way to end the holiday, John Williamson was on in concert in Renmark, who would have thunk it? We've been trying to see him in concert for YEARS, he's a REAL Australian balladeer and was better than expected. A few "kids" ( around 25 or so) were really thrilled to be there and sang along to most songs, followed by "You legend John", "Love you John", "You Champion John" and other yelps and yells that amused all around, not sure if John heard them but they were going to meet him after the concert...poor man!
We arrived back in Adelaide and its great to be back amongst friends, roll on the barbies, lunch, din - dins and drinkies oh and where's the Rocky Road Gill? We want MORE!
So that's the end... no more ... all over red rover (blue nissan)... two punctures, 4042 kms travelled from Cairns to Adelaide. The old bus travelled 7.2 Kms on a litre of Diesel, that's 20.37 Mile to the Gallon or 13.86 Litres per 100 Kilometres....I've put that down for my use for me next trip but youse can read it too...
