Well we're on the way back down South and wow it really doesn't seem like nearly 8 months since we set off from Adelaide on the big trip north...anyway here we go...on the road again....
We were hoping to make Charters Towers in one hit but after 7 hours on the road, stopping for morning tea, lunch, fuel etc it seemed like a good idea to pull up when we saw Fletcher Creek, what a bonus it was. Showers, toilets and all free...even better I hear you shout.
On the "main road" which in a lot of cases was only wide enough for one vehicle there are many, many Road trains and these ones haul ore and can have up to 4 trailers attached which makes them about 60metres long (that's nearly 200ft!) SO....when ye see this sign and then ye see a truck coming ye get off the road!
Also along the way we came across a lot of signs with a LOT of places on them, turns out they were all the cattle stations in that direction....
We still find it amazing that you can have FREE camp sites miles from towns with showers, toilets, bins, area's set aside for fires and even plaques to let you know the history of the area, you are only supposed to stay here for a maximum of one month but some people seemed to be settled in for life.
After a very pleasant evening at Fletcher Creek we woke up early and had a nice walk along the creek, beautiful with the mist rising off the water......still it was HOT!
