Arrived in Duesseldorf late morning after an 8 hour non-eventful flight.   We were going to try and get a direct flight straight out to Alicante in Spain, but there just wasn't any that worked, so we've ended up having to stay in Germany for a couple of days, which we are really looking forward too.
Our friend Rima (previously our au-pair) had organised for her mum and grandfather to pick us up, with a van (thanks to their church) that we all comfortably fitted into, including our 11 bags!  What we didn't realise is that they live 2 hours from the airport, (and that was going at 150km/hr on the autobahn), so with a carload of tired individuals it was a very quiet trip, as everyone slept.   For me, I was in the front seat and couldn't have slept if I tried - I was too busy holding on!

But we got there in one piece, and of course we were very grateful for the ride.   Rima was there waiting for us with big hugs, and her mum had made a big pot of hot soup for our lunch.  We were made to feel so welcome,  and the rest of the day was spent with the children playing, us enjoying each others company, and sharing in her mums great cooking!   Extra nice for me, to have a home cooked meal that I haven't had to cook.
Finished the day with a hot sauna.  Wonderful.

Got to say it all looks different...this is Continental Europe and is such a contrast to the likes of USA/NZ...the signs are different for a start. Having to pinch ourselves to think..that we are now going to be living in all that Continental Europe offers.
