I use the title of Millionaires in an affectionate sense with true admiration .... Let me tell you the story ...

We came into Myrtle Beach yesterday afternoon, and found this most wonderful campsite, that is really like a little town.  There are street signs (and stop signs), supermarket, café and fast food outlet and golf cart hireage place (which in summer has 1000 golf carts hired out just for this park!).   It has its own church, and the lakes within this community that are lit up at night, and sprouting fountains and you can fish in them.  They have also built self contained units, which an individual can purchase, and lease the land.  And of course, there are the large RV sties right on their own mile of privately owned beach.   Amazing place.  I'll attach the website so you can have a look.    (By the way, only cost about US26 per night to stay here at this time of year - another great reason to travel a little bit off peak.)

But anyway, the story continues ...  it's owned by a (now elderly) couple, 86 and 88 respectively.    She was left 300 acres (I think) from her father.  She was one of 7, and the boys got the land because in those days the land was more precious 'cause you could grow things, and the girls got the beach; the beach was worth nothing.   Well, I think she's had the last laugh, because between her and her husband, their hard work, humbleness, and genuine love for people and nature, that have created a little piece of paradise, which is now worth millions.   And the beautiful thing about this story  is, they still live here, on the campsite.   No mansion in Beverly Hills for them.  They have something like 360 staff in the summer months, and they are rated one of the top 15 places to work for in the county.   They instill all the values of customer service that we all desire to have, and despite how large the site is, all the staff I've met, so far, have been very friendly and accommodating - they obviously enjoy working here.

Well, we couldn't just turn up last night and leave this morning - the kids wouldn't let us!  We hired some bikes for the day, and a golf cart for 24 hrs (only $14).  Tara and Harrison did the Scavenger Hunt last night, which involved being split into teams and given  45 questions about the campsite, (remember the campsite is huge) and they had to go on their bikes, and find out all the answers by torchlight, within the hour.    They loved it!  They came back, having come second, with 3 mini-golf passes, which they used today (with Trent) and had a great time.   Now, I know they will want me to tell you about the games room ...  it's like an arcade with every pin ball machine you could imagine.  You get a certain number of tickets per game depending on how well you do.    And you then add up your winning tickets, and can pick a prize.  Well we ended up with all sorts of 'rubbish'  as you can imagine, including vampire teeth, smiley face tattoos, plastic lizards etc .  But Tara does particularly well on the  'Deal or No Deal' game.   But, certainly they ALL enjoyed the games room.

On the campsite is a  Recreation Centre, which includes a huge indoor arena in which they accommodate different shows and performances as well as a fantastic indoor/outdoor pool complex, and we all enjoyed a swim this afternoon, after being down at the beach.

It's been a fun day, full of activity and sunshine, and as I write this it's 9.30pm, you can hear the waves crashing in and Gary has taken all the kids for a ride on the golf cart, right around the 300 acre site - just for fun .. which is what this day was all about.

Myrtle campsite
It certainly says a lot about a campsite when you chose to stay on instead of heading off to see new sites.
Love to all
