A 3 hour trip from Wisconsin Dells, bought us into Chicago around 10.30am.   The views this trip were very different.  It was a lot greener, flat to rolling, lots of trees - in gorgeous, bright autumn colours, and very much like New Zealand motorways, (less the grafitti).  Unfortunately, the rain didn't allow us to take any photos - but a very enjoyable little trip.

Gary & I have fond memories of Chicago from a trip, B.C. (before children)...  but with the weather cold, the parking for a RV non existent, (and the closest campgrounds an hour from the city!) we planned this very much as a past through destinatination.  It's the old saying  "if only we had time"....  still we certainly had to make a stop.  In fact, had planned to get in touch with Diane, an old friend of ours, who resides in Chicago (her and her husband Steve, were so good to us on our last visit, we've never forgotten), but anyway after 3 days of trying I was unable to reach her and of course, she rang us on the mobile, AFTER we'd left Chicago and 2 hours down the road!  But still lovely to talk to her, and who knows ....  we might see each other again soon.

So, back to this classy city  ...   A pass by the 'old' Chicago (think brick buildings, small windows, Mafia), to the infamous Sears Tower (was once the tallest building in the world), and a drive around the Navy Pier, not missing of course the river, that runs right through the middle of the city, where you can take tours.  It was everything we'd remembered, and we didn't dare venture out to the shops, because the shopping, as I remember, is fantastic!

After a little 'run in' with the nice traffic officer, we headed through to Michigan.

Halloween in America
I hope you will be somewhere to enjoy Halloween the way Americians do.
We are not going to be doing the Halloween thing this year. The Guy Faulkes fireworks display is on Friday night at Clevedon and we love sitting by the bomb fire and watching the display.
Love to you all.
