Where I stayed
Sugar Pine Point Campground
We started the day with a trip up the road (about half an hr) to Squaw Valley, where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held...impressive ..but certainly geared up for the winter and snow as far as things to do.
Drove 45 mins around the lake - crossing into the State of Nevada (yep cowboy hats & casinos) to Sand Harbour - doesn't sound much but it is indescribable. Think bliss - then you have Sand Harbour at Lake Tahoe.
We couldn't bear to leave this beautiful place, so we decided to spend a day 'blobbing' it. Found a quiet sandy bay, with smooth rocks (great for climbing), plenty of parking (they have to be able to accommodate trucks with boat trailers in summer), and a clear, see to your feet, pure water lake, (almost 1000 feet deep) all encompassed in amazing tree studded mountains.
The hot sun decided to join us for an incredible, perfect day.
