Leaving LA - and we admit - it felt good to leave the hustle & smog of the city behind.

How can I describe Santa Barbara?...   Quaint is one word that comes to mind, with its parks, picturesque lawns and gardens, prettily painted homes, and completely litter free.   In fact as the kids played on the playground, I noticed a woman jogging through the park - she stopped to pick up an a bit of rubbish, and put it in the bin!

It really was quite perfect. To get there we travelled another almost perferct route through Santa Monica, Malibu along the gorgeous Pacific Coast.

Our first stop in Santa Barbara was The Mission - it is what they call the Soul of the City, established in 1786.   There was a great museum showing snippets of life then, (so self sufficient, we could definitely learn some things!) The church was beautiful, there was also a cemetry and lots of memorabilia.   What surprised us the most was how Spanish everything was ie: alot of areas established by the Spanish people.  Quite incredibly there are still descendents of the original inhabitants, working and living at the Mission.

Next up was a look at Stearns Wharf, which is a wooden pier with little gift shops and fish & chip eateries.    A walk along the boardwalk that runs along the beach and we are off again, heading towards Slovang .....   great RV site with pool & hot tub. Nice.

You described Santa Barbara perfectly! Incredibly quaint and picture perfect, I love going there. There is just so much to do. The mission is so gorgeous and the surrounding neighborhood is just as gorgeous. It would be a dream to live there! I can't wait to go during Fiestas this year! They have a huge annual dance on the steps of the mission and it is so beautiful! We're gonna stay at this great little place we discovered a few years back, The Sandman Inn (www.thesandmaninn.com). Really affordable and in a great location. Our kids LOVE playing in their pools all day long. It's great!

I love the mission. SO positively gorgeous and just the staple in every Santa Barbara vacation. I've been there several times and each and every time is a beautiful experience. I was just there for fiestas and I really enjoyed the dancers on the steps of the mission! So radiant and they did a wonderful job of demonstrating the city's culture and so forth. I stayed at the South Coast Inn (www.santa-barbara-hotel.com). So elegant and the best place to escape all the city noise!
