Well, what can I say!?!   This is paradise as always.   Love getting off that plane, and feeling the heat hit you!  You know you're in Fiji.   This is extra special 'cause Mum & Dad are with us - didn't want to say good-bye at the Auckland airport, so thought we should all just chill out and spend some quality time together - only a couple of days, but it does not take any time to relax when you have sea breeze, sunshine, palm trees, and guitars playing softly in the background .... aaahhhh......

Well, straight through customs, piling into taxis (literally!) and then straight to the Westin (20 mins down the road).  A bit of hassle when we got there ... didn't have our booking .... and considering I phoned just the day before to confirm, this was frustrating, but hey, it's Fiji - what can I say, it's normally all good, and this is a place we make a trip to once or twice a year (and have done for a long time).   Our Fijian friends greet us like old friends, with smiles as wide as the ocean, and hugs to match - love this culture!!!

And so the pool beckons..... and when you've come from Auckland rain (non-stop for the last 3 months!) you can't get there fast enough!

First night we all headed to one of our favourites The Steak House Restaurant at the Westin.  Location - on the beach!   Weather perfect!  Service charitable and always with a genuine smile....   I always order the Walu fish, and Gary always orders the ribs, and hey, why break with tradition? ... if ain't broke, don't fix it, and this is a combination that works for us.  The downside of that night, was that Mum got sick as the hours wore on, and we didn't see her for the next 24 hours.

The next day we were off the Radisson for a day at the pool with an accessory slide.  Everyone goes down that slide - from our 4 year old (who has convinced himself he can swim) right up to my 71 year old father!  So no excuse for next time you visit, it's mandatory.   Finished the daylight hours with a game of outdoor bowls.  How can I explain this one .....?   Gary thought he knew all about playing the game, and unconvincingly was trying to teach Dad who had played for 30yrs.  (No need to pay for entertainment these days.)    Anyway, awesome day as usual, followed by a planned adult dinner at the Hyatt Nuku restaurant - food is gorgeous!   This was
a special dinner we had wanted to give Mum & Dad as a thank you for having us for the last few months, and really because we just love the location, and wanted to have a relaxed evening with people we love.   Sad, as Mum couldn't make it (we'll make it up to her on her visit to Spain), but we had a beautiful evening, with calamari on a skewer (don 't miss that one!) ,salmon and good New Zealand wine that we'd bought with us.

The next day (which was our last full day), Gary took the kids off to the Sofitel Hotel for another pool session (again with the slide).  I was hoping for some quality 'me' time.  The intention was great, but not long into my dreamy poolside state, I was bought back to reality ...     Brad (our youngest) had, had an accident going down the slide at the Sofitel, hitting his head quite badly, and the lump that was protuding said it all.   One look at that and I started to panic slightly, with all sorts of things going through my mind.   All praise to our Westin hotel staff,l they had ice and towels on hand, nurse there within minutes, and had phoned the local doctor, (who was waiting for us), ordered a taxi and we were off!   Doctor was great - lump was severe - mother was relieved - father was still in shock.  Awful incident to have to deal with - palm trees or not.

That night we had a simple meal at the poolside restaurant before we said good-bye to parents/grandparents in the lobby of the Hotel.   We contemplated the 12 hr flight ahead, on the other hand I'm sure they went and had a cocktail!
