Left Oakley this morning with a few dark clouds in the sky but continued driving east into clearer skies.  Lots of spring crops sprouting or even just being planted.  Things to see: oil pumpers, wind farms, and baby calves, we even saw some bison with calves.
So now, a little history!  :)
We detoured a mile off I-70 to the little town of Victoria, settled by  English "gentlemen farmers" in 1873.  A group of poor immigrants from southern Russia (Volga-Germans) joined them in 1875.  They built a village of sod huts next to Victoria and proceeded to make a living off of the land whereas the British found pioneer life too extreme and returned home to England.
Hounoring their Catholic faith, the Germans erected a tall wooden cross in the village, followed by a small church in1876.  Three churchs were built over the years until today there stands the structure know as "the  Cathedral of the Plains". The building of the current St. Fidelis Chatholic Church was begun in 1908 and continues to have improvements added.  It is beyond description.  The pictures I took do not do it justice.  More info @ http://www.stfidelischurch.com
The church grave yard was quite a contrast of old and new.
We watched the news tonight and were devastated by the damage in OK done by the tornadoes. It appears that storm front is continuing in up to Kansas City and could cause problems in the surrounding areas tomorrow.  We could be right in the middle of it.  Darn.

Sounds like you are having a great adventure Connie. Hope the bad weather avoids you and you continue on your journey safely. Whens the next quilt show?

We have been thinking about you a lot. The storms seem to be coming right across the center of the states. Hope you keep one step ahead of them. Stay safe and see ya soon.
