March already...flowers carefully showing their faces, jumping out of the cold ground, my woolen hat can stay inside and am ready to work outside on the van and myself!

Welcome to my newest blog ;-)
In many aspects I feel a new journey has started, this time again from my home country The Netherlands.
Leaving Beneficio, Spain, was hard and I do miss it in many ways, but I now understand why I had to go back, not only for the rational reasons like throwing my parents a 'retirement' party or giving one of my best friends a huge 'you can do it' hug. Also to finish the last battle with myself once and for all. With a little help from my friends ;-}

Besides this battle I am living my life to the fullest as always, enjoying moments with friends, hugging my nephew, riding my bycicle again and... joining in for Carnaval This typical fiesta in the South of the Netherlands where people dress up funny, act funny and drink quit a lot. And NO this is not what the party is about, eventhough people from the other side of the rivers keep saying it over and over. Of course being here I did not want to miss it, so dressed up as a fortune teller WITH tarot cards and crystal bowl, had lots of things to tell hahaha, but... Anyway just love the admosphere and simple humor. Sang and talked so much that I lost my voice for a week. All ok now by the way.

By now the retirement party for my parents has been organized and taken place. Lots of phonecalls and emails were send out but all worth it as many people took the effort to come to the chocolateshop and surprise my parents. Even an old aunt of my mother, a woman I never met before myself. Unfortunately they were not feeling well at all that weekend, even in doubt if they could make it, but with lots of sleep and medicine they managed luckily. Of course they are still helping out, but as of now the chocolateshop is run by my brother and his wife. Time to go fishing dad ;-)

All this time I have been working at Elsevier, as I knew beforehand not the most inspiring job, but handy to have some money coming in and great to have daily contact with Mira again. I think a few more weeks and then it's time to do other things...Springtime is coming, the sun is calling me and I have my own place again, in Amsterdam, where I have lots of space to work on the van! There is two ways in life, believing in faith or luck. Well I am a strong believer in faith. You meet people for a reason, either a helping hand or with a message. Last week, this happened to me, again.

Looking for a place to live, I saw this empty office building. Possibility to squat or anti-squat, IF it has been unused for over 1 year. special flaw in our legal system ;-) Time to find out, so off to the neighbors across the street...A guy opens the door, just awake telling me a new company will move in soon, so no luck. However, he will move out of his place next week! Right, well I am interested...what do you want to know about me?! In short, in one hour he wanted to introduce me as the new anti-squat person, just-in-time as apparently they had put this house on the website and 8 more people showed up the same day ready to move in. They said yes, I signed the contract (formality) the next day, moved 2 days later! So now I am the proud owner of an old but huge house in Amsterdam. Once again I am an Amsterdammer!

Most likely will stay in the Netherlands until the overland trip, which will start in August! Working on the van, regular Tuesday Van Discovery visits to Amstelveen, going on a motorbike trip with Andy and whatever else that is fun and interesting to do. Work is not one of them ;-) I think 2 months is more then enough, almost time to live again! hahaha Oke, maybe I will do some bar work for a few nights a week, love to be behind the bar again! Working at night, leaves me time to do other things during the day.

So if you feel like coming over to Amsterdam, I have plenty of space for you to crash, hammock to relaxe in and by that time a campfire to sit around! I will keep you posted on my Dutch adventures and preparations for the overland trip...

Great to have you in Holland for a little while..
Now we can hug you in person, instead of digital!
Congrat on your Amsterdam house, love to see this soon.
But, still great adventures ahead...your journey has just started.
Isn't live beautiful?
See you very, very soon.
Kisses & hugs,
Gerard
