Taking it slow...that was the idea! Mentally adapt to civilized life again.
However things always turn out different...

After spending a wonderful evening with my brother, his wife and my little nephew, a great time with a good friend of mine, I wanted to go to my parents place in the nature to be by myself a bit before re-introducing myself to Holland again. Enjoying simple civilized things like a warm shower, using the washing machine (needed!), electricity etc. My brother dropped me of, joining me inside for a cup of tea and SPLASH!

What???!!!!
Turns out that while my parents were enjoying their holiday on Costa Rica the heating systems decided to take a holiday as well! And it being the most cold week in history, this was bad timing!! Result: all the plumbing freezed and exploded. Water running everywhere... So I spend my first days in Holland hosing water, arranging the insurance, a plumbing guy to fix it all etc. Here I was back in 'civilization' without a shower, heating system, running water and no washing machine: Just like being back at Beneficio :-)))

In the same week I worked in the chocolate shop for a day and Mira, my friend and ex-boss at Elsevier called me as well. Sorry to jump on you like this, as you just came back bút....we are really short-staffed. Could you please come and work for a few weeks? Uhhmmm, do I really want this, this quick, back in a office again, working?! But must admit, it is bloody cold here, so working on the van is not happening yet, might as well earn some money then. So here I am, 1,5 later, joining the working people again in the train to work. Listening to crazy conversations like about the AH delivery service coming at 18.00 o'clock etc. How opposite living this is!

Strange to be back at my old job, same floor, same department, almost same chair! It only took me a few hours and I was back into the system again. Even remembering old codes etc. like I did not leave the building over half a year ago. Scary and funny at the same time. Nice to meet old collegues again, unfortunately my most lovely collegue and friend is still in Australia! Hope I will see you soon, Kristen my friend! Hang in there and don't worry I am taking care of things for you here!

As I had to go back to Amsterdam so quickly I had no time to look for a place to live, but Mira offered me to stay at her houseboat. And it has been great so far! Lots of laughing and talking with even more pots of tea! Life is not so bad at all, eventhough I am working now ;-))

Met up with Barry and the mechanical crew as well yesterday, helping me out with some things, sharing lots of good advice and information to turn this van into a house on wheels. Most likely will spend some more tuesdays in Amstelveen. Interesting, handy and fun! Cannot wait till the cold disappears and I get started on the van. A new plan is developing: taking the van to India! Leaving this summer. More about my time in Holland and the preparations in my next new blog: Overland to India...
