This December month I have spend at the farm in Rudrapur having remaining repairs done on the van, organizing my own stuff once more and waiting for the Customs answer to the vehicle claim in anticipation… On the 14th of December THE email arrives and I'm afraid to open it…what will the decision and consequences be? Scrolling through 5 pages of explanation the words 'the claim has been dropped’ smile at me from the page! 3000+ euro stays in my pocket! Thank you Universe! I (or rather the van) have to be out before 31th of December…so will drive to Nepal, not a bad place to be ;-)))
The December month arrived unexpectedly quick… already over 2months in India! Mom telling me about Sint-Nicolas who will be visiting my niece and nephew as well, 5th of December happening. At moments like these I wish I had a space-machine to zip me back to NL in an instant. Would have loved to be part of this! To get the Sint-Nicolas spirit going I tried to make ‘pepernoten’ with Remu but must admit failed miserably at it! Uneatable rock-hard little stones was the result…so much for being a baker’s daughter ahum.
They have chosen wisely as soon after the weather changed suddenly and it has been cold…hat&shawl&2t-shirts&sweater-cold! No not at cold as in Europe but remember we have no heating here! Good thing…. It’s only the evenings/nights, the daytime the sun is out and we can warm up a bit again ;-) With the troops gone it left me and Bhooi to guard the farm, watch numerous episodes of Two and Half Man (I actually think it’s funny!) but mostly work on the van! With spare parts from Delhi the brakes can be fixed and so on. In and out of town to visit my most favorite work men: the mechanics ;-))) a group of
Then on the 14th of December I get THE email from the Bareilly Customs Division… my heart stopped for a second, afraid to open it. What is the decision and the consequences?.......... scrolling through 5 pages of explanation the final words ‘the claim has been dropped’ smile at me from the page! 3000+ euro stays in my pocket!! My happy-scream must have made the whole of Rudrapur jump! Leaving the country… no problem…until I read more carefully… the van has to stay out of the country for minimum of 6 months… hummm…Nepal here we come! The rule applies for the van only, I can travel freely back into India, which is a good thing as my visa is still valid until the end of March. Bit of pity I will have to temporarily travel without my van again if I decided to do so!
The deadline is there, the pressure is on, a to-do-list has been made and worked on… no stress
Xmas arrived unnoticed, we didn’t plan anything really, mostly focused on the van and my soon-to depart…but Bhooi’s friend surprised us with the best fish ever (who needs a Turkey!), Anchu made us a nice sweet pudding dessert and Bhooi’s sister and mother even gave me a gift! So celebrating the famous days even in India in the end!
Now only a few days are left until the kick-out-date. Yes I am still here…I am a last minute girl;-) The van almost fixed, most stuff back inside, water filled up, even cooked my first ‘meal’ on board again, and it felt really nice! Ready to travel again! Yet I know it will be so strange to leave this place after 3 months!!! But only after Bhooi and I have been on a short drive to enjoy the van-back-in-shape-moment together! So yesterday we went for a test & relax drive into the mountains to Sattal. A beautiful shanti place that Rachel already told me about before and I was curious about. It’s an area with 2 small lakes
Bhooi, once again…and I know it is not the Indian thing to do but….THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for your help, knowledge and common sense!
Spend the last night on the farm, first night in my van! The van and I are ready to travel again...
This New Year’s Eve… in Nepal….with Hiralal and his family in Deep Nagar!
He will travel with me from the border, surprise home visit… ;-)
I will tell you all about it next year!
