So we took the van to mechanic, just a few routine jobs to get fnumena in top form ready for the road. Got a phone call two days before bon voyage party. Disaster! Needed a timing belt tensioner and an exhaust manifold niether of which the mechanic had been able to source and without which fnumena was going nowhere. What a blow. Several hours of internet searching loads of phone calls and a little much appreciated help from some friends managed to find the tensioner (thank you Mo). Which arrived up special delivery (thank you Maggi) to the party.
Was hard to get ready 4 party at first with still no sign of manifold after lots more internet time, loads more calls and a dissapointing trip to a humungus scrap yard. The arrival of happy smiling friends soon dealt with any lingering downheartedness. Party was great craic, enjoyed every moment.
On the third day of searching just when i was begining to lose hope and considering getting one made up especially in china - don't ask- I found it..in Germany, you've gotta love their efficiency! Only problem now was we don't speak German and the message on their phone is (obviously) in German. So after a moment racking our brains as to who we know that can we get onto Frank and Gisela in the hope that one of them will be able to help. To cut a long story short eventually we discover it will be delivered in three working days! Yahoo!!
So we get back to work packing away, organising and getting excited. Lena went off to Uk to sort a few things in Brighton, then, You'll never guess, I phone mechanic to see is it done....no, not yet! The timing belt he had was the wrong one!! Only off by a few millimetres but enough to make it not fit. Luckily he had good news the next day, he could get one. The delay though was just long enough to mean we had to wait another week for a ferry as the prices for uk ones has shot up so much now as to make it unfeasable to go that way.
That's all thnkfully behind us now, we have fnumena outside. All the work is done on her and we started loading up our stuff today hooray!! So excited!! Scruff is all sorted, it's a minefield of different information from differnt sources, I had to play at detective to get to the bottom of all the confusin details but basically a dog doesn't need to see a vet or have anything done leaving ireland or uk (apart from the passport stuff). Only on the way back.
It's only monday and the ferry not til saturday but that's ok. We have a few things left to do and are planning to take our time and pootle down the country stopping a few places on the way. So that's it - touch wood- we're on our way hey hey hey hey cocklorum!
