In the morning, we woke up to a nice breakfast assortment prepared by Gloria. We bid our good friends Gloria ad Barney and of course my loving father goodbye and off we went. A ten hour drive to Boise! I had called Elise Saxby (the mother of my friend Jenna, who I have known since Kindergarten) to get her daughter's new number. When I told Elise that I planned on visiting Jenna and her husband Mark, Elise suggested that I call Mark and plan to surprise Jenna. And that is exactly what I did. We had it all set up to arrive in Boise at 4:30. Mark told Jenna to stay around the house since he was expecting a package from UPS to arrive. But we didn’t anticipate driving through a new time zone, so we actually arrived around 5:30. Mark was already home and we knocked on the door Mark let us in and showed me to the bathroom where she was doing her hair. I walked behind her and said surprise. I think she was pretty shocked. It was great to see her! She has been living in Boise since late May and I am proud to say we were her visitors from California/Germany. After the introductions, we headed to Carino’s, an Italian restaurant (similar to Olive Garden, but better) to have dinner. They had a couple’s special, where you got to choose soup or salad, two entrees, and two bite size desserts for $19.99. Pretty good deal and the food was excellent. After dinner, we went to the Boise State Bowling Alley where we played two games. The first game Mark won with 100 and something points, while I lost miserably, barely making it over 50. The next game, after Jenna gave me the hint to look at the arrows on the ground instead of the pins, I won with 145 points! We then headed back to Jenna and Mark’s apartment and went to sleep. Janis’ and my air mattress had a bad leak. Lying in bed, we were on the ground in no time, so we pulled out the couch bed (the bed I remember sleeping in while having sleepovers at the Saxby’s in elementary and middle school). In the morning, Jenna sent us off with blueberry scones she made the night before, as well as some more snacks. I wish we could have visited longer. But Jenna is coming to SoCal in December, so I am looking forward to seeing her then.
