Sunrise soon came, and I had a glimpse of how beautiful this day was going to pan out. Clear skies made the perfect drawing block for splatters of red and orange glows of the sun.
As we arrived at El Chalten, the bus took us to the park information centre where the local guides explained to us the trails which we can take and the timings etc. He emphasized we were extremely lucky - such clear days are rare in El Chalten, and Patagonia in general. Some people come and stay for days without seeing the peaks of the Fitz Roy, which greeted us with a smile as we got down the bus
Proceeded to check in to Hosteria Thiamalu, which was US$80 for a quad room. When I discovered we could not use the kitchen, I cancelled the next two nights and had to forfeit the deposits for those, as the Hosteria is really quite pricy. We will move to Hostel Paine Grande tomorrow, which is half the cost and we can use the kitchen for meals, saving us much more.
Left for the Laguna Capri trail at around 12, after a simple lunch with ham and cheese. It was a snowy uphill path, but this was easy in comparison with the Torres trek. Arrived at the Mirador Fitz Roy after 2 hours. Amazing views of the mountain range from the lookout. Then proceeded to take the other path to Laguna Capri, which gave a closer view of the mountains aside a frozen lake (I walked into the lake without knowing and got my entire left foot wet).
Headed back to town thereafter. Gonna head to the waterfalls tomorrow after moving hostel! The wifi here sucks
