Day 3:

The night in the shelter was much more bearable, though the bright lights and wind noises woke me up a couple of times. Got up for breakfast at 6, and packed our tents to leave for Campamento Italiano (Campsite) which was 7.6km (2.5 hours) away. We left at 8.15 and arrived around 11. The road was round the hills and with the full pack on our shoulders, it was not easy getting there.

Once at the campsite, we set our tents in the woods, grabbed our day packs and set off for the French Valley. The entire climb was uphill from the start, which varying terrain. We had gravels and rocks for the first 45 minutes or so, mud for the next hour, and snow for the rest of the time. The snow part got a little challenging as the markings were not as visible. The panoramic views round the valley was breathtaking. We witnessed avalanches (bits of glaciars breaking off), making thunderous cracking sounds and leaving a trail of white puff above as it fell.

It was around 2pm that we decided to head back, before we reached the mirador at the end of the valley, in order to get back to camp before the sun set. The views were largely the same anyway, just that we got closer to the mountains and glaciers as we got deeper in.

It was freezing when we reached the camp. Quickly made dinner and a heat pack using an insulated water bottle to get me through the night.
