Where I stayed
Tuesday 24th July Indian Wells
Went to bed around 11, slept until after 3am, but couldn't go back, so
got up for nearly an hour. Still didn't sleep much at all.
I bought two camera lense cap securers for $2 each.
Bob was happy to stay and do some writing, so Bill and I went to a big
Westfield mall. He got a Tmobile hotspot subscription for 7 days for
$20, compared to $10 a day at the Hyatt. Hopefully I can share it.
I bought two camera lense cap securers for $2 each.
We then went to the Living Desert. Only cost $10 plus $5 for the
shuttle. We waited 10min. for it to come, the the drver said they
closed at 1:30pm, and there would only be one more shuttle run. So we
skipped the African section, except for what we could see from the
shuttle.
We jumped ff at the North american section, which included
wolves, foxes, cougars, birds, a road runner out on the pathway,
cactii, and lots of desert shrubs and rocks.
It was extremely hot and
humid, even though there was some shade and an occasional puff of
breeze. We had hats and water, but I was just about ehausted and
feeling feint as we struggled back to the car. Both of us really felt
the effect of the heat to the pits of our stomachs as we sat
recovering in the very hot car. The air-conditioning could not really
cope, only dropping the temperature a bit. I didn't think I could
walk around the Air Museum we had wanted to see next, but it took 30
minutes or more to get there as it was back towards LA a fair way next
to Palm Springs Airport.
We both felt much better by then, and it turned out to be in air-conditioned hangars. It featured WWII planes including B-17, P52, Bearcats, spitfire, Merlin etc. and a few other
items such as cars and models. Cost was only $10, and there were a
number of helpful volunteers to give info and answer questions.
Ended up seeing a lot of the area, and having a really satisfying day,
both of us getting to do everything we had hoped to and a fair bit ore
besides.
Met a number of people in he lobby at reakfast and when we got back as
At breakfast Bill asked me to write a one or two part article for
Northern Light on my trip.
Met a number of people in he lobby at breakfast and when we got back as
well as after tea, including Sam Butler in the morning, Trevor and
Vicki Cherry, Janet Morrison Mike and their daughter, Al Norstrom and
his wife, David Sheridan at breakfast, Mohan, and Randall.
We took Randall with us to tea at the Olive Grove an Italian
restaurant chain that Bill recommended. They had a nice draft
Hefeweizen beer with a slightly lime flavour. The salad was included
with the main dishes, I had Ravioli de Portobelo (mushroom), total $21
including tip.
Bed around 11pm T-Mobile connection kept getting white screens.
