Today we made the decision to fulfill one of our childhood fantasies!!!! We're going to DISNEYLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So rather than take a tour that is making the tour operators very rich, we used the wireless Internet, I've now worked out on our new computer, and were able to look up how to get to Disneyland by public transport! Yes it is possible - most people don't seem to realise! Instead of $115+++ for tour bus there, it again was only $1.25. Much more friendly on our budget if we want to complete our itinerary in full!  I thought bringing our newly purchased laptop, bought only really when it was so we could claim back the GST tax at the airport, would be annoying but I'm beginning to see the benefits! LOL.

We caught the bus from down town L.A. The drive out there was long almost two hours. It is 70 miles out of the city. But what a great way to see some more of California, that most tourists wouldn't see, by going on the local bus route. Saw different local suburbs and scenery,  and the people watching offered by sitting on the bus was priceless, that and meeting and talking to the very interested locals about where we were off to - as we were a couple of only small number of tourist people to use the bus. But we finally arrived to fulfill every little kids dream of being at Disney land.

We didn't realise until you get there, that Disneyland offers a choice of two parks Disneyland Original or Disneyland California or you could do both if the wallet supported. And then around Disney land in the area there is also other big amusement parks like Knotts Berry Farm. We choose Disneyland original. Obviously a very popular place there were mountains of people! We hit Main street USA first, where they had old fashioned ice cream and sweet shop parlours, Disney memento stores ++++ and old fashioned penny games arcades and of course the expected Tigger, Eeyore, Goofy, etc characters walking around!

Then it was onto the rides, starting with Adventure Land.  Awesome rides with excellent effects and features and lasting a long time. Just some of the rides that we were able to do in the day included Pirates of The Caribbean boat ride/roller coaster in water,  Winnie the Pooh honey pot ride (LOL just for fun and there was hardly any line), Wild West roller coaster, Haunted Mansion train ride and walk, Splash Mountain very fast! Water roller coaster/  We also went to the original section of Disneyland, where they had original rides from when the park first opened that were still great including Peter Pan roof top ship ride and Pinocchio train ride.  And finally went to the futuristic section of Disneyland where they had things like 3D movies - 'Honey I Shrunk The Audience' where you also became a part of the movie, and futuristic gadgets and inventions and computer games. Also a section where you could take a picture of your self and see what you might look like when you were like 50 years older! A bit scary!!!!

At the end of the day there were still some rides that we hadn't gotten to, but the length of time spent in lines was a big time waster! Up to an hour and a half for one ride! But the ride was good fun and worth it and as we were in holiday mode it didn't fuss us to much.  But that would probably be the reason why people might get a couple of days entry to a park and i could imagine if you had young kids then waiting that long might not be great fun for a day, but for us, in one day in 11 hours we covered a fair bit of the park! And enough to say we had a great Disneyland experience!

We left the park at 11pm, getting back into downtown LA at about 1am - a long day. We ended up getting a cab a short distance back to our hotel from the city centre cause we were so stuffed, so have experienced the yellow LA cabs. He seemed very surprised at that time to get a fare from a young touristy couple. A bit later on, a local told us that downtown after dark is not very safe and also questionable about public transport late at night, but we felt fine and there were lots of cameras in the bus and a friendly bus driver.
