Today I returned to the motherland after being away for 8 months. I got to admit I've been feeling kind of zoned out the last few days knowing that at the back of my mind the trip is coming to the end.

Although on saying that I've had a great last few days in Los Angeles with Joey, Jess and Amy. On Tuesday, Joey and I went on a tour around all the star's homes in L.A. which included the homes of Sylvester Stylone, Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew Perry, the Osbournes, Bruce Willis and a fair few others. The houses were ridiculously huge as you'd expect but it did get a bit tedious after a while because we didn't see any stars and so it was just a tour of houses. They also took us to the world famous Rodeo Drive (which I had never heard of). After that we went on a second tour which took us to the Hollywood sign and the Hollywood Amphitheatre and with a legend of a tour guide that didn't stop cracking (very bad) jokes.

That night we met up with Jess and Amy and went to watch the Borat movie. The following day the three of us went on a tour of Universal studios which was awesome and although we didn't get there till 2pm, managed to see most of it taking a tour around the studio with sets which included the plane crash from War of the Worlds, Wisteria Lane from desperate housewives, an old western town, a simulated underground explosion, a simulated flood, the stunt scenes in The fast and the furious, watched a show on the set of water world, and went on several rides. On the evening we went for a few drinks then lived the life of Luxury staying the night at the Roosevelt hotel with Jess and Amy across the road from the Kodak theatre.

So all in all L.A wasn't as bad as I might have first made out. In fact it has been a pretty action packed few days. Usually the trip home always drags but this one went quite fast because I Ended up sleeping for almost all the flight on the way home even though I wanted to watch the films I wasn't in the mood and was way too tired. When we touched down in Heathrow the wet drizzle outside summed up my mood on the inside. It helped to have Joey there who was going through exactly the same thing as me otherwise I'm pretty sure I would have been a lot more depressed about this trip coming to an end. Don't get me wrong I can't wait to see family and friends again and being home for Christmas is pretty cool but sat on that runway I realised how much I love the randomness of travelling and the unpredictability of never knowing what you could end up doing next.

After leaving Joey at the airport I got on the underground just in time for rush hour and made my way to a hostel in the Bayswater area of London where everyone from uni is coming tomorrow for a reunion. I went out for a wander around the shops (in the rain) and one thing that I did find odd was how much I was noticing everyones British accent. It is strange being back in the country where everything is so familiar but so different at the same time. Anyway enough waffling about how strange it is to be back. It ain't over yet.

Beverly Hills...that's where we should still be!
Kirkage!

Your travelogue is hilarious - I just checked in to view your piccies (I felt sad bout the loss of my pics today )-: ) and became so engrossed in the great escape that I have quite possibly read every entry ... hence why its 3.30am! I must send you the e-mails with my accounts of events such as the 'weed incident' in Westport - we've both got that wacky vision of the medieval street stampead!

New Zealand was great and we were so lucky with our group full of such luvvlies .... but LA was an absolute blast, so I for one am pleased you lost all your money cos I got to spend the last days of my trip with you, Jess and Amers - three of the most wicked people I've met ... miss ya already matey!

P.S Your dad sounds like a legend ... I so have to smoke a splif with him, lol
