Left Alice Springs back on Friday after having returned to the casino like I said we would on Thursday night and lost all the money I won the night before and a little bit more.
Spent most of Friday driving and got to Ayers Rock about 4pm on Friday just in time to drive around it and pull up to watch the sunset. Everyone else there decided to do the same thing. Not surprising really seeing as there is very little else to do out by a rock in the middle of nowhere. Still one hell of a sight to see the rock sticking out of the land when its so flat all around. Especially as you drive up close to it. Although at first when we approaching it on the highway we mistook some mountain for Ayers rock. Spent the night at the only campsite in the area then got up early on Saturday, went to visit the Olgas (Kata Tjuta to the natives) about 50km away from Ayers rock then in the afternoon we went back to Ayers rock (Uluru) and climbed to the top. It was quite a steep climb at about 350m tall and circumference of about 10km. I know 350m might not sound like a lot but its more than enough when you have to climb it almost vertically. Almost didn't bother but glad I did when I got to the top. One hell of a view and got that strange and very rare feeling that I had actually accomplished something when I came back down.
We managed to cover about 500km that day before it got dark and spent Saturday night at some roadhouse just across the Northen territory/South Australia border. Yesterday we left the roadhouse about 10am and didn't stop driving until we reached Adelaide 1100km (700 miles) later at about 11pm. Spent last night in a car park on the outskirts of Adelaide and today we checked into the closest caravan site to the city centre.
Its started to get cold again at night like it was in Perth because we're in the south of the country and its winter down here at the mo, although you wouldn't be able to tell by the weather in the daytime which just consists of cloudless sky's. Infact we haven't seen so much as a drop of rain since leaving Perth almost a month ago.
Australia's also managed to rinse my bank balance out aswell. Was quite naive thinking that Australia was geared for backpackers so it would be cheap but so far I've spent more than I did in Japan although we have rented a campervan which cost more than it probably should because we were to lazy to look around and just went with the first offer we got. I guess that's why so many people work over here but I'm too lazy to do that aswell. Hoping that now were over to the east coast somehow it will be cheaper or that the poker is going to pick up or one of you lovely people reading this will make a nice fat donation using the link to support my travels?!? No takers? Damn.
