Yesterday it was Lukes birthday and we thought we'd try to do a bit of sightseeing in the day
. Wandered around looking for an entrance to some park in Perth only to give up three hours later when we were all starving and couldn't find the entrance. Bought a crate of beer then went back to our hostel and started drinking. The town centre was packed and everywhere had massive queues outside. We ended up in a bar where there were a group of about 45 swingers in there who were far from shy. They asked us if we wanted to join them. We didn't, although Dave was clearly loving it with the beer goggles having kicked in by then. They were all middle aged couples who clearly loved their food (yes i mean some were slightly overweight) and the one who was speaking to us kept going on about her two kids. All part of the Australian culture I guess. When we left we tried flagging down a taxi for about 2 hours even though we were staying only about a ten minute walk from where we were. That's drunk logic for you and then it ended up chucking it down and we got soaked. Also met another Australian dickhead who somehow thought I was insulting him when I asked for directions. I'm actually quite surprised at the amount of complete twats we've met over here. I had this impression of Australia being quite a chilled out place and everyone being quite laid back. But from the people we've met so far like the guy who stopped us on customs, the asshole of a barman who chucked Luke out the other night and now this idiot last night who clearly wanted to show us how tough he was I'm not so sure now. Don't get me wrong we've met a few good Ausies but so far we've attracted our fair share of knobheads aswell.
Tomorrow we leave the Globe hostel where we've been staying the last three days and have to go pick up our campervan. Going to take it easy tonight, been out too much the last week and haven't seen anything in Australia so far that we couldn't have seen back home. Just getting used to being back in the western lifestyle I guess. Also put my flight back to 14th of September to fly to New Zealand.
On Friday we arranged to rent a camper van which we pick up on Monday. Weren't sure whether to rent or buy but after realising none of us had a clue how to go about renting or buying one we ended up going for the easier option of renting. It works out about 730 quid each for two months (5400 aus$ in total) which is probably not the cheapest we could have found but at least we don't have to worry about sorting anything out now plus we have a camper van as of tomorrow! Spent the rest of Friday in the casino and ended up playing poker for about 8 hours straight to eventually break even over the whole week. Saw one guy at our table win a 5000$ pot (about 2000 quid) off of a professional base ball player who clearly didn't mind chucking a grand in the pot waiting for a single card to come out. It didn't. But then suppose when your on 400,000 US$ a year it doesn't matter so much.
