Woke up this morning and it was raining, I should have took this as a sign that I was going to be sitting on trains all day. I had a lie in till about 11. Yes this is me who would usually call 11am an early morning. Anyway with such crap weather outside it reminded me too much of England and I should have done the wise thing and stay in bed all day and experience the a day in a japanese hotel room. By the time I had decided what to do it was about 2pm and the weather was still wet.

Originally I was planning to go to Kyoto but theres so much to see there I wanted to make a day of it. In the end I decided to go to Nara which isn't too far, or so I thought. I got the train which was at the platform which said Nara on, but turns out you had to switch trains half way there. Which is why everyone got off when the driver had finished his long speech in Japanese and I was just sat there wandering what he was going on about. Anyway I ended up at the end of the line - Takada. So after back tracking for an hour I finally arrived in Nara at about 5. Found an information stand where I got a map. Sweet, I thought things are looking up plus it had stopped raining. Nara has a few shrines and a big park full of tame deer. Turns out there not so tame after all cus the first one I found decided that my map looked tasty and ate it. Yeah he snatched the thing right out my hand and swallowed it. I couldn't believe that, still could have been worse could have been my camera I had in my other hand. So now without the use of a map I was left to my own devices i.e wandering around until you come across something interesting. Who needs a map anyway. Managed to find a massive giant metal Buddah statue but after the delay getting there it started to get dark whilst I was heading into the forest looking for some shrine, so now I found myself the only one around in the middle of the woods where the shrine is which I'm sure looks great in the daytime but I was kind of preoccupied with trying to find my way out of the woods without a map. Stupid deer.

Anyhow found the station in the end and was too tired to really find out which train I wanted. Logic or should I say laziness dictated it was the closest one. Turns out funnily enough it wasn't and guess where I ended up at 9 o clock tonight. Fucking Takada. Again. Would be sweet if I was staying there but I wasn't. Funny thing is that I bet I couldn't find that station again if I wanted to. So again another hour and a half later I was back on course. The train driver was actually really helpful once Id managed to explain I was on the wrong train he did everything short of turn the train around for me. When we got into the station he actually got off his train and took me to my train! Hows that for service and he couldn't speak hardly any English. Still all in all it was a bit of an adventure. If you can call an adventure sitting on trains going the wrong way. Well at least Im getting the most out of my rail pass. But I would probably be crying right now if I was still in those woods cus they were scary.
