We both meet up safely into Singapore, on Halloween, just before midnight. Despite warnings and cautions about the strict systems in place in Singapore, arrival is quite straightforward, and we don't experience any major issues in the city. Downtown Singapore itself is impeccably clean, though the city does get dirtier in Little India and beyond.

Singapore was a great introduction to Southeast Asia, establishing us as a minority amongst a majority of Chinese, but with many western comforts (including the ubiquity of English), not to mention the national obsession with shopping - see Orchard Road! The malls provide great shelter from the heat, as well as from spontaneous downpours, and there's quite a lot of new and cheap food to try (many busy hawker stalls). We check out some of the major neighbourhoods, as well some Chinese and Indian temples, and some mosques as well. The zoo and night safari were all right, and the Esplanade Theatres were quite a sight! We also managed to visit the botanical gardens which became our first giant spider sighting-a huge black and red spider on a web spun directly over our path-ewww! This was almost forgotten by the adorable tiny tree frogs jumping everywhere, but not quite.

The transit system was quite efficient in Singapore, and the subway tunnels (which are sparkling clean) were built so that some of them double as bomb shelters. We also took the city bus, which has a television installed and made for a very quiet ride with everyone staring at the TV!

Sebastian had a small DQ blizzard that was oh-so tiny...The jumbo in Singapore = the small in North America, which is extremely telling.

The Bubor Cha Cha started us down the road to delicious Southeast Asian desserts.
