Zagreb...just for the day, until our overnight train down to Split. We spend most of the day in the downtown area, and checked out the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary...say that 3 times fast. The downtown area was quite nice, and even had some lovely botanical gardens near the train station where we could relax while we waited for the train.
It rained on and off while we were there, but even in the rain the main square was quite pretty, and was even crowned with 2 rainbows at one point...leading to our only photo of the city.
At night, we hopped the train to Split, and grabbed our own cabin for the night. As the train started off, the conductor popped into our room, closed the door behind him, and started speaking gibberish (or Croatian...it's hard to tell) to us...but eventually we understood that he wanted us to pay him 5 euros for a cable to tie the door shut...a nice reassuring start to the overnight ride. Fortunately nothing happened during our trip...and we even opted to buy tickets for the return overnight ride later on!
