We took a bus from DC to NYC, becuase it properbly would be to hard to hitch up there. It took the whole Friday afternoon. We got there about 8pm, quickly found a map over there city and walked to Union Sqaure, were we had an aapointment with Clarissa at the Virgin Mega Store. I had found Clarissa, 24 years, via the www.couchsurfing.com and we ended up staying with her for a week. She was in NY to go to DJ school and was originally from Sao Paolo, Brazil, but at this moment she lived on a "loft" in Brooklyn with a bunch of other people. It was an illegal building and she didn't pay to live there - cause no one really cared about the building. She hadn't told her roommates that she was on this website, so we had to tell them that we had met her in London (where she had lived the last 2 years). And our room were a room that no one knew she had - we had to jump out of the window to a balkony and into another window to get to the room where we slept.

The first days did we use to see all the really tourist stuff, such as; Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Ground Zero, China Town, Cenrtal Park and Little Italy. But we used the most of the time to go around and get hungry and eat all the junk food we could find on our way. Some of the nights we went to check out the bars in Brooklyn
To at least do some un-touristy did we take out to Bronx and Harlem to see if we could find some ghetto... but we didn't really find it. And the day we had dedicated to museums did we fell over a McDonalds-ice cream and got too late (cause the museums allready closed at 6pm).

There so many things going on in New York and you would allways only get to see some of it I guess. We kind of came to the point where we had to live there to really feel how New York is like. We just wanted to get going on the last days and we felt that we had seen what we wanted to see. Though we had found a Babtist Curch in Harlem that we properbly would find interresting to visit on a Sunday-serving to meet some black culture, did we leave on Friday for Boston.
