After the colca canyon we had a few days to burn before flying out of lima on the 10th. We thought we would go to the Ballestas Islands (poor mans galapagos) to see some wildlife.  The main place to get to these islands is from Pisco, however they had a huge earthquake in 2007 and 80% of the town was levelled so we thought we would go to a nearby town instead.  Off we went on our 12 hour bus from Arequipa to Pisco, I was happy out as the bus was quite comfy.  A few miles after Ica, however, our bus hostess managed to tell me that my rucksack or mochilla was "gone" and "stolen"! Sheīd taken the bag off a stop early and left it in the corridor and someone took it.  Of course they just continued on after this drama unfolded and didnīt bother telling me! Took a few minutes for this news to sink in and had to be told a few times it was gone, I insisted they turn the bus back to Ica so I could get a police report.  Reluctantly they did, but no sign of the bag.  2 hours later, armed with my police report we boarded a bus to Lima as I didnīt have anything but the clothes I was wearing! So there is some man in Peru with some interesting backpacker gear like a universal sink plug, headtorch and multitudes of girls clothing! Luckily I still had my passport and credit cards, so its a huge pain in the ass, but I could continue on my trip. Iīd heard of alot of people getting small bags taken but not the big rucksack as usually they arenīt worth the hassle, but I guess they will steal anything in Peru given half a chance!
