Hello from Chiang Mai!
If we're in Thailand already that means that we've done our 2 weeks in Japan without uploading anything, whoops.
Japan was hectic, we didn't have long enough or had too much to do.
We landed in Tokyo and spent 2 nights there, we saw a few temples and experienced the neon nights of Shinjuku. I bought myself a camera and will upload some pictures from it ASAP. It was hot in Tokyo, 40 degrees celsius and really humid, the sort of thing you never experience in Britain.
Then we got the bullet train to Nagoya and met up with Rowan, I visited Rowan last time I was in Japan in 2002 and now his Japanese is flawless. I guess that's what 5 years of total immersion will do to a person. He was a great guide and we ate some great food.
We stayed there for the weekend then went on to Takayama which was a fairly small and very picturesque town with loads of temples. All the carpenters and craftsmen who built the temples around Japan used to live here and you can tell. We stayed in a youth hostel in a temple for the night, the landlord was the priest.
Next day we went on to Kyoto by train again, we rented bicycles from our hostel here and got loads of sightseeing done. After 3 nights of that we went back to Rowan's in Nagoya for a couple of nights then we all went to Osaka together.
A couple of days later we were on our flight to Bangkok, once there we jumped straight on a sleeper train in our own carriage and rolled up to Chiang Mai.
That brings everything up to date but without much detail, I'll give more detail as I get time and of course I'll try to upload some pictuers soon, Fin.
