Day two in Canmore found me more refreshed than a night of tossing and turning should have. I took it gratefully. Well, in a squeaky wheel kind of way really. I prepared my breakfast from the groceries I picked up last night.

I KNOW, I never cooked at home, but get me in the mountains...I have more groceries here than I do at home!
So as I was cooking my organic free range eggs with omega 3, and cooking my flax bread toast while dressed in my new organic cotton t-shirt, I went to get a cup of coffee. I asked the guy how he was. Good, it turns out. Also turns out he was staff, so when He politely asked how I was, I mentioned how the first night was a little rough and is that actually normal and all that. Suffice, I asked if I could switch from the rowdy room to one with adults. "Come back after 11." Promising enough, I headed for the hills, not to let the gray skies deter me from my intentions to take a hike in the mountains.

At breakfast I met Julie, an English woman on a 4 month holiday. Sort of makes my six weeks seem like small potatoes. Sweet Sweet small potatoes. Ahhhh.

She lent me a map of the area with some hikes listed. I knew I could get advice from the visitor center downtown, but I thought I'd give one of the ones off the map a spin. I had one all picked out, and only 35km out of town. No Problem. A relaxing drive through the mountains seemed like a great way to let the light morning rain pass. Sure enough, that plan worked out perfectly. Fantastic. I had a great four hour hike, with minimal moisture, and no incidents. Er, kind of....

I was actually looking to take the Buller mountain trail, and ended up passing it, but on the map, I saw an easier one a little further down the road, so thought that might be a better choice for my first hike of the season. Maybe it would have been. The multiple pathways in the area were not quite as clearly marked as the map would lead you (or me at least) to believe. I don't even remember what the paths were called, but the one I took was not the one, or even the second one I was looking for. But it was a great walk mostly through the woods, with some mountain and river scenery too. All under a moderately overcast sky. This worked out great for me. It is no Secret, I Love trees. Even the weather was perfect. For me anyway...and the mosquitoes. Even still they weren't too bad. not bad enough to poison myself with the emergency only supply of bug dope I brought along. If I can keep it sealed all summer that would be phenomenal. Unlikely, but phenomenal.

I was tuckered out after my hike so I headed back to the hostel. It was Well after 11. I asked again about switching rooms. No problem. I Love when things work out! I switched to an adult room. This one is not even full, it is bigger, has corner windows, a table and chairs, a TV on the wall which I have NO intention of ever watching, but nice touch just the same, and oh, yeah, Clean! Grown ups are awesome. I hope. I haven't actually test driven this new room. I choose optimism. Things are working out after all!

Oh yeah, I met another gal this morning....in the loosest sense of the word met. I haven't got her name, nor had a conversation, but she lent me some margarine to cook my organic free range omega 3 eggs in the morning, and has smiled in recognition when seeing me after that. I was chatting with Julie over dinner, (Yeah, I cooked it myself) and this other gal was at the next table on her laptop. I asked her if they had internet. Sure enough! Computers? Apparently available to rent. So basically the convenience of a cyber cafe or whatever the kids are calling them, without the restrictive hours. My hard earned and limited cash to update. I do it for love. (Love may be expressed with certified cheques and international money orders please.)

So originally I was going to take a walk to the park and back and maybe make a social phone call, but This opportunity was just too tempting. While my typing skills have vastly improved, It would seem I still think slowly, so I'm at least two hours deep now. The mountain view out the window has given way to the dark cover of night, and the sounds of dinner and dishes have passed and the staff have selected cable electronic music for the evening. Mellow and magical. I have precious little time left in my second hour. I will retire now to enjoy the beats and read the email I have no intention of responding to tonight. Lookin' forward to all that love...
