The long time promised Asia trip (Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam Laos).
I have been talking about doing this for a few years now, but have always managed to come up with an excuse or three. One night I went on-line and checked my Star Alliance points. I had enough to get me to Thailand and back, but they were expiring in a month. So what the hell, here goes! That's how the flight got booked.
I read in Lonely Planet that there is a BAHT150 airport bus to Khosan Rd. Also everyone said that accommodation would not be a problem. So off I went without booking anything and did not regret it.
Now here I was loving it in Bangkok, living up to my promise to myself that I would only stay in one hotel (hostel) per night and move on. That was fine until through trying to find the cheapest place possible, I actually found the one with most bed bugs. Enough! - I'm back to the previous place. One benefit of hindsight is that you know when you were onto a good thing.
Tuk-tuk ride through Chinatown at night is a must. Try for one-third of the asking price. So is the T-shirt shopping trip though Patpong Market. But keep out of the bars! Khosan Rd Market is a ripoff. The weekend market at Chatuchak is an absolute must-do!
