Looking out through the window of my bus I noticed the diversity. Rich people living in high rises owning Porches and Lamborghini's and well cared for dogs. All these people live in zone 9 and 10 of Guatemala city. But alas, not everybody is so lucky as the locals live mainly in mud walled shacks, sleeping in hammocks and eating what ever they can scavenge. These people don't even have enough money to go to school and people in New Zealand take schooling for granted!! Some dogs have got mud matted hair, broken limbs and are so skinny that they have their ribs showing and are forced to eat whatever they can scavenge.

Year 8 maths equals hard; especially when I'm only year 7. It is the hardest work I've ever done and we are doing a subject which I'm learning for the first time (decimals) ... but to say that I am understanding them a lot better. My strength is understanding their place value and adding and subtracting decimals. I have also gone ahead in jumps and strides in maturity. I know this as I have handled the stress of traveling very well. I feel like a new Zahn.

The language they speak over here is Spanish. The language I speak is English ... but I know numbers, words and a few sentences in Spanish like 'Done esta el bano?' (where is the toilet please.) I may not be very good at Spanish but mum's brilliant at it. She speaks like a real Guatemalan. As the trip has progressed I have definitely become more confident.

I also enjoyed the theme park in Antigua. My hands turned white as I gripped the leather pole getting ready to get smashed into the leather in front of me.I clenched my eyes shut and hoped for this 100 feet tall ride to end.

It has been a brilliant trip!
